On the evening of October 20, 2001, more than 100 people gathered in the funky and eclectic environs of a recording studio called Mr. Small's Funhouse. They were there to witness a live performance by the psychoustic storyteller™, the Amish rocker, HUNGRY BILL. "Live at Mr. Small's Funhouse" reflects not only Bill's brilliance and wit but also the audience's perhaps-too-hasty consumption of 240 Amish-style pancakes and a half-barrel of beer. "Live at Mr. Small's Funhouse" comes with two sides (home fries, toast, bacon, apple sausage, grits or Amish muffin) and our famous bottomless cup of coffee.
HUNGRY BILL returned, after a long sojourn into the exploration of the Mothman legend and strange shapes hovering in Amish country skies. While he lives by the motto "as long as you don't do it out in the street and scare the horses," he's not afraid to illuminate what goes on behind closed doors in "I Am Suspicious": Amish defense attorneys, plain white T-shirts and nights when it's best that you ride home in the trunk. "My Weird Uncle" was recorded in a calving barn in rural Pennsylvania during that winter after the apple crop was so wormy. Bill knew there was nothing to be done with those apples but make cider. Could a person be to blame if a bit of yeast slipped into the casks? Well, no one had seen Bill in a week, and hearing a great deal of commotion and caterwauling, a neighbor broke down the door to the barn, expecting to find some sort of animal husbandry disaster. The neighbor was never the same after what he saw, but fortunately, Bill was rolling tape that whole week.
